Right atrial mass assessment by transthoracic echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance.

چکیده
The patient underwent transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), which disclosed significant left ventricular dysfunction and cystic mass of heterogeneous content on the lateral wall of the right atrium (RA). Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging confirmed the TTE findings. Due to the high probability of thrombus, oral anticoagulation and echocardiographic control were chosen. The patient had refractory heart failure (HF) and died after twenty days of hospitalization. In this case, TTE showed good correlation with the MRI results. In addition to the unusual finding at the TTE, it shows the importance of integration between the imaging methods and the poor prognosis associated with masses found in the RA.

A Differential Diagnosis for Left Atrial Mass on Transthoracic Echocardiography: Hiatus Hernia
Hiatus hernia is a common medical condition. An elderly woman being investigated for dyspnoea of unknown aetiology had a transthoracic echocardiogram as part of her investigations. This alarmingly demonstrated a large left atrial mass. Further assessment with cardiac magnetic resonance imaging revealed a large hiatus hernia compressing the left atrium and no intra-cardiac mass. The case succinc...
متن کاملProminent Crista Terminalis in Patients with Embolic Events
A prominent crista terminalis is a normal anatomic variant which consist of thick muscular bridge within the right atrium. However, it could be often misdiagnosed with an abnormal mass on the transthoracic echocardiography. The case report presented here, describe the findings of transthoracic echocardiography that suggested a right atrial mass in patients with pulmonary embolism. However, subs...

A routine abdominal sonography study detected a round mass in the right atrium of a 66-year-old man, who was then transferred to our hospital for further evaluation. On physical examination, the patient appeared healthy, with no signs of discomfort or heart failure. Cardiac auscultation revealed normal heart sounds with a mild respiratory-dependant systolic murmur at the apex. Laboratory studie...
متن کاملBiatrial thrombi resembling myxoma regressed after prolonged anticoagulation in a patient with mitral stenosis: a case report
BACKGROUND Many cases of cardiac masses have been reported in the literature, but in this case report we described a rare case of biatrial cardiac mass that represented a challenge for diagnosis and therapy. The differentiation between cardiac masses such as thrombi, vegetations, myxomas and other tumors is not always straightforward and an exact diagnosis is important because of its distinct t...
متن کاملA giant right atrial myxoma demonstrated by RT-3D transesophageal echocardiography and magnetic resonance imaging.
An 84 year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with a history of hypertension. She had no history of cardiac symptoms, syncope or fever, and her medical history was unremarkable. On admission, the patient’s heart rate was regular and her blood pressure was high, 180/100 mm Hg. Blood biochemistry was revealed to be normal. The 12-lead electrocardiogram demonstrated atrial fibrillation rhythm ...
